  • Rougher Waters Yesterday

Compared to the calm reflecting pool the lake was when I went kayaking the other day, winds whipped the water into great activity yesterday.  Still quite beautiful, just in a different way.  Here are two photos I took.

  • whoa!  those are gorgeous pictures. the ocean kicking its heels up a bit.

  • ryc:  lol. that must be exactly how he feels. :)

  • I love being able to spend extended periods of time around water, whether it’s days or weeks or entire seasons. You get to see the lake in various moods, the way it changes to reflect the sky and wind and atmosphere. I always find it reassuring to watch those changes; they remind me that no state of being is permanent. Sometimes my own moods feel permanent. I have to remember that the inner world changes, the way the outer world does.

Kayaking is always something I’ve wanted to try. Who knows? Maybe one of these days I’ll do it!

  • The light streaks in the upper shot are gorgeous.

The thing that caught my eye in the lower one was the color of that water. Immediately, I wondered how it smells.

Some rivers around here run milky from glacial silt, and the water in some marshes is tinged brown from tannin in vegetation. Big Lake, about halfway between here and Anchorage, is polluted from recreational activity and has iridescent slicks on the surface. Mostly, though, the lakes I’m familiar with most are clear and reflect the blue of the sky.

  • I really love the primal feeling one gets that close to a large body of water — in all of her moods — don’t you?

  • Nice shots! I used to camp at Lake Michigan for the entire summer, and your pics make me so nostalgic.

  • Looks calm to me, not as calm as before…. but I grew up on the beach in NH I think…

  • Nice pics.

I grew up a bit southwest of Rochester.

  • If Ontario gets like Lake Michigan, there can be some large waves and rocky water.  I’ve heard the middle of Lake Michigan is much like the ocean.  I’ve never been out that far, so I wouldn’t know for sure.

  • that looks huge- like a sea- do you go often?
i used to live in/on Mt. Shasta – I miss that a lot.

  • Breathtaking…absolutely breathtaking.

  • Wonderful pictures. I envy you some days when I think of living out like that. Judi
